A broad grey-lilac sweep crosses the picture diagonally, with ochre yellow above and below it. At the upper right a handwritten sheet is pasted in and half painted over: a letter in French hand, of which “l'honneur de” can still be read. At the lower right a row of dark marks takes up the letter's handwriting without saying anything.
